When you take a family camping, many things come along. This past trip was a good opportunity to try some products out for future outings.
Bisquick Pancake Mix – definitely not healthy, but so simple and tasty. Plus, it gives the kids a fun activity in shaking the bottles. What would campground pancakes be without maple syrup? Perhaps nothing, so pack it in (can also sweeten your cowboy coffee if needed).
With 4 kids, snacks are a must. When camping, ease of portability and minimal wrapping are a big plus (did you know that 20 million plastic sandwich bags go into US landfills every day?!). We received samples of LunchSkins, which are snack, sandwich and sub baggies that provide an easy, stylish, affordable solution to single-use plastic bags.
Perfect for snacks, traveling or packing lunches, LunchSkins bags are made of food-safe, high-quality fabric used by pastry chefs. The result is a bag that’s grease- and moisture-proof (ideal for messy food), while also dishwasher-safe and BPA-, lead- and phthalate-free. So handy and earth-friendly to boot!
Speaking of snackage, we received samples of the new CLIF Sierra Trail Mix bar, which features a sweet and salty flavor profile inspired by the traditional trail mix. It’s the first CLIF Bar made with cocoa from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. The introduction of Sierra Trail Mix rounds out the flagship product line at 17 great-tasting flavors. I personally thought it a bit heavy on the peanut, but the rest of the family loved it.
If you’re camping, there are bound to be mosquitoes. While itchy bites are common, most people don’t realize that mosquitoes can carry Malaria, Yellow Fever and Encephalitis in addition to the West Nile virus, which has been confirmed in 48 states. Yuk!
We were recently sent a sample of the new Insect Zapper Lantern from Stinger. This is a great addition to any outdoor activity where you plan on settling in for awhile and, since it’s portable, cordless and rechargeable, easy to use.
After hiking (especially if you carry a toddler on your shoulders most of the time), aches and pains are a given We were sent a sample of Dragon Ice® Relief and Recovery Balm from Jack Black. A soothing balm, Dragon Ice lessens inflammation; the formula is enriched with invigorating Menthol to cool and soothe aches and pains, Organic Aloe to calm and soften the skin and Willowherb to combat inflammation.
In addition, Dragon Ice contains Dragon’s Blood, an anti-inflammatory, free radical scavenging, regenerating ingredient derived from the sap of an Amazonian tree, and restorative MSM to help soothe joint and muscle pain. Whew, that’s a lot of helpful ingredients!
A sample of Unburn Sunburn Relief from Water-Jel was not needed, happily, but is good to have on hand. It’s a topical water based gel for fast sunburn relief that actually draws the heat out of the burn to cool the skin, cool feeling (pun not intended).
Chums also makes items that are good to take along.
