Gear Review: weBoost Drive 4G-X Signal Booster

I’ve always enjoyed my Sleek 4G Signal Booster,  so I was excited when I was offered a sample of the weBoost Drive 4G-X to review. This is an updated (very much so) signal booster that works even better than the one we’ve come to accustomed to, with the addition of a second, interior antenna which works in conjunction with the exterior one.

Gear Review: WeBoost Drive 4G-X Signal Booster

Picture this: you’re out and about in nature, pulled over to the side of the road to witness (and photograph) the world’s most awe-inspiring sunset. You look and, to your horror, there is no cell service available to broadcast this across your social media networks. Sure, you can post it after driving some time until you get a signal or wait until the next day, but the magic of the moment is gone. Or…..or….maybe you have a Drive 4G-X Signal Booster, there magically is a signal, and everyone in the car can share away, happy as bugs in a rug.

All kidding aside (you know I was kidding, right?), the Drive 4G-X Booster can (possibly) get you a signal where your phone is unable to and yes, it might be for frivolous fun, but it could also save a life. You may not have time (or the option) to search out a cell signal in an emergency situation, but with the booster, the cell phone signal is boosted and you have a much better chance of having a signal. The Drive 4G-X may not get a signal in every situation, but it’s pretty remarkable in its capability.

How it works: The booster’s antenna accesses voice and data via  cell towers, amplifies it up to 32x, and sends it to the inside antenna, which broadcasts the boosted signal to devices inside the car. This can also enhance 4G LTE and 3G signals for everyone in the vehicle.

Each device comes with everything you need for a complete installation – the newer models, with more parts, take a bit longer to install, but we’re talking minutes, here, not hours. Even a really careful and methodical installer can get this up and running in 15 minutes or less.

Major league caveat: BEFORE USE, you MUST REGISTER THIS DEVICE with your wireless provider and have your provider’s consent. Most wireless providers consent to the use of signal boosters. Some providers may not consent to the use of this device on their network. If you are unsure, contact your provider. You MUST operate this device with approved antennas and cables as specified by the manufacturer. Antennas MUST be installed at least 20 cm (8 inches) from any person. You MUST cease operating this device immediately if requested by the FCC or a licensed wireless service provider.

Looking at reviews from other users, everyone from vanlifers to RVers to regular folks like myself have used this successfully. While I didn’t have any issues, some have reported more heat coming from the devices than others – these are electronic devices so a certain amount of heat should be expected. Any issues can be taken up with the Wilson weBoost customer service folks, who appear to be great at reaching out to folks in need.

The weBoost Drive 4G-X can get you a signal when your phone can’t on its own, providing safety and additional social media opportunities!
