I love getting samples for review from Mishmi Takin – their products are unlike anything else, a company that spotted a niche and is filling it with well-designed products. These are good looking lightweight hiking shoes/bootsand offer great performance.
The company was formed to design high performance products for climatic conditions like those found in the hot and humid tropics of the founder’s native Himalayas or the West African forests (he has many stories of his experiences in Liberia).
Initial product focus is on designing high performance boots and hard and soft shells, optimized for the rigors of wet environments, which is something we face a lot of here in the Midwest, both during hot summers and cold winters.
The boots are waterproof and the extremely breathable eVent membrane vents the sweat out keeping feet dry and cool. The outsole is Vibram Tubava with Megagrip, allowing for good traction and also self cleaning lugs.
The shoes are mid cut upper for ankle support, the rubber toe rand offers protection from toe stubs, and the anatomical EVA midsole adds cushioning. This all adds up to a comfortable shoe out of the box, though they are also breaking in nicely to a more custom fit.
The shoes are surprisingly light weight – 1 pound 3.3 ounces for one shoe of my Men’s 13s (European 47). Much like the company’s jackets though, they feel supportive and protective.
