Om Mushroom Superfood Review

I’m a fan of mushrooms and Darin Olien, the superfood hunter, extols the health benefits of mushrooms, so it’s a pretty good bet they should be in your diet. Part of the issue for some people is the consistency and/or flavor of mushrooms is not to their liking.

Om Mushrooms have taken those issues to heart and created superfood powders to make it easy to incorporate the benefits into your daily eating. I received samples of Energy+, Brain Fuel+, and Restore to try out. Using Om is simple, just add one teaspoon (2 grams) of Om Mushroom Superfood powder to your favorite drink or smoothie, hot cereal, soup, or sauce.

Om Mushroom Energy+ has a citrus flavor

Energy+ is a blend of Organic Cordyceps, Reishi and Lion’s Mane mushrooms along with Guarana, Yerba Mate and Turmeric. Extra benefits include B-Vitamins (Vitamin D, C, B2, B3, B6 and B12). Flavors include Citrus Orange and Lemon Lime.

Om Mushroom Brain Fuel + has a mocha flavor

Brain Fuel+ is made up of of organic Lion’s Mane and Reishi, plus Folate. This is available in Mocha flavor.

Om Mushroom Restore is straight mushroom flavor

With Restore, the aim is to detox, rebalance, and recover. The powder is a mix of organic mushrooms: King Trumpet, Cordyceps militaris, Reishi and Antroida camphorata mycelial biomass. This product does not include a flavor profile.

Om Mushrooms have a variety of flavors

Taste Test: We (my boys, ages 10 and 13, and I) kept it simple and just mixed the three powders with cold water (though warm water would make it easier for the powder to mix in).

  • Energy+: tastes like a typical citrus orange drink powder, it’s hard to believe that mushrooms are the base; the boys thought this one tasted the most natural.
  • Brain Fuel+: a strong mocha or coffee flavor, this one wasn’t appreciated by the boys but I thought it had a good flavor. Again, hard to believe that mushrooms are the base.
  • Restore: this one flat out tasted like mushroom powder and when mixed with water, like cold mushroom soup. I’d say this one is best used as an addition to other foods or maybe imbibed as a sort of tea.

Overall, I’d say that this is a great way to get mushrooms into your diet easily and painlessly. The two products that had distinct flavors would work great as a sports drink (Energy+) and coffee addition (Brain Fuel+, love this!). I’d happily add Restore to anything with which I didn’t mind a little mushroom flavor.
