Weekend River Trip: West Branch DuPage River

Weekend River Trip: West Branch DuPage River

Pretty excited. Yesterday I signed Tazer and me up for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s “Weekend River Trip” on May 9 and 10. We’ll meet the first day at McDowell Grove Forest Preserve in Naperville, where we’ll receive instruction on kayaking basics before paddling up the West Branch DuPage River to Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville. That night we’ll camp at the family campground and enjoy a nice evening meal cooked in cast iron over an open fire. In the morning after a simple breakfast we’ll take part in a ranger-led archery program before kayaking back to McDowell Grove. All gear is being provided, so we just have to pack an overnight bag and we are good to go! This past weekend, Tazer and I explored a section of the river just above where we’re going to kayak (check out the photos on my FB page) – it is really a beautiful stretch and I can’t wait to see it from the water itself.
